Whoops. My weekly release cycle faltered a bit there but whatever. This is a hobby. 🙂 Also, this pen is totally worth waiting for and is the last in my #killwinterwithorange series.
This bib beauty was part of a massive order of pens from the Carolina Pen Company. It all started with a table in the corner at the D. C. Pen Supershow.
There were some friendly folks selling acrylic blanks in the corner. The rods were about eighteen inches long or so and I bought two of them. I took one picture of them:
…and walked straight over to Jonathon Brooks and gave them to him for future use. I also discovered the site FPNibs that sells JoWo nibs for fantastic prices and since prices are in euros it is much better for my Canadian dollar. I ordered a number eight 18k two tone broad nib plus a number six nib for the next pen I’ll review and had them both shipped directly to Jonathon.
I gave Jonathon complete artistic license on the design. My only stipulation was to use the orange crush acrylic and the oversized nib. What he came up with is a stunning pen that I truly love. It’s perfect.
The orange crush acrylic is used for the entire cap as well as for two thick bands on the barrel end and one thin band on the section near the barrel threads. The rest of the barrel and section are made of wonderfully polished black ebonite. There are two gold plated bands on the cap and a chunky gold plated clip.
The shape of the pen is a flat top and the chunkiness of the cap reminds me of the shape I love from my Delta Dolce Vita Oro Oversize while flush gold bands remind me of a MKI Parker Duofold Centennial, which makes me smile. 🙂 The overall length of the barrel reminds me of nothing in my collection but I love it. It’s almost like a desk pen or something but the long barrel makes the pen perfect for unposted writing which is a really nice touch.
There is a very good chance I may order more pens with this shape and style. It really suits me.
The nib is really great. I’m a big fan of the JoWo number eight nib’s size and shape plus the added bonus of having an ebonite feed. The two tone broad nib is tuned perfectly and laser engraved with the Carolina Pen Company logo. Very nice touch.
Jonathon did such a wonderful job on this pen. I’m a very satisfied customer and already contemplating my next order.
Thanks for stopping by.
